Lisa Raye: Beauty is a Beast
Urban Definition of Beast:
When referring to a person, beast status is achieved when the aforementioned person is so good at a certain skill that they have exceeded human comprehension, thus making them non-human…a beast.
LisaRaye McCoy, mother, entrepreneur, actress, model and former First Lady, is the epitome of every woman. Born in Chicago, Illinois, LisaRaye was vicariously introduced to the world of business through her father, who owned numerous companies including a car wash, law office, bank and more.At a very early age she learned the “business”, how to multi-task and interpersonal finesse, which had a direct impact on catapulting her into the successful businesswoman that she is today. But with every successful business come difficult tasks and the most difficult task that LisaRaye face as an entrepreneur is unskilled people.
“Everybody believes they can do something and everybody has to work to survive. The needs of our economy have people scrambling. People who are writers are taking on positions that they don’t necessarily do or do well, but they’re thrown into doing something because they have to survive. For me, I’ve struggled to find a team of people that work. I have a team at the lower level, but I’ve been struggling to find and have someone in my life, on the higher level of management and agents, who is able to facilitate my career and strategize a way to build, mold and help the enterprise and brand of LisaRaye.”
Beautiful, stylish and very classy, as an actress she has graced the television screen in the movie The Players Club, the sitcom All of Us, her very own reality show LisaRaye – The Real McCoy, and VH1’s Single Ladies. Mogul interviewer, Neicey Ford, asked LisaRaye if she could tell readers what they could expect for the second season of Single Ladies. LisaRaye responded, “Oh yes, girl. We’re not lacking any drama and we’re definitely not lacking any eye candy either. We have such an ensemble cast with these three ladies and that is such a great A, B, and C story because one of us you’re going to be able to appeal to and the other is either going to be one of your other friends, an aunt, your mother, or somebody that you know.”
“It’s so encouraging as far as wanting and needing to know how to date, what women go through, what we’re thinking sometimes, what we’re afraid of sometimes and even how we’re sometimes afraid to be vulnerable. But there’s a lot of that in this upcoming season and with Keisha being such a strong character, people want to be able to root for someone who has some issues and some problems. They want to be able to root for someone who’s going through what they’re going through. So, this year Keisha is a little more vulnerable and I like that. There’s some more drama going on with Keisha and Malcolm and that’s going to be introduced as well. There’s definitely some shadiness going on,” LisaRaye chuckled. “The fashion is still on point and we’re having a good time. We’re having a great time!”
In addition to her many other ventures, LisaRaye began a group Back 2 Business (or B2B) and shared information about it with Mogul.
“B2B (Back 2 Business) started on my social network Twitter. It was just affirmations of positive energy, positive words, positive thinking and the need to want to share with people. I had gotten such an overwhelming response of encouragement after my divorce that we started this B2B…Back 2 Business. I think that everybody needs to be back to something; back to business, back to love, back to career, back to school…back to YOU. And that was a little bit of it for me. I needed to get back to being me. I needed to get back to my business. After coming out of my divorce and being replanted, rebirthed, and reborn all over again, I needed to refocus on LisaRaye and what she was going to do.”
“So, as we started thinking about where we could meet up to have these lil’ side bars, we’d pick a restaurant and we’d always sit down and think, ‘I wanna be somewhere else. I wanna go on vacation.’ From that thought I paired up with my two partners, Tom and Trev Murray, and they were like, ‘hey Sinbad used to take people to Aruba, Diddy used to take people to Cancun, a woman has never done it…why don’t you start something?’ So, we did and the first year it was hosted in Puerto Rico. It was small – about 400 people and I felt overwhelmed then. I was like wow, ya know? Then the second year we sold out three hotels and it was like, okay.”“That year we even had business panel discussions, but a lot of people didn’t come for that. A lot of people found that just collaborating together and networking at the different parties and the different functions was more favorable. So, this is the third year and we’ve moved it to St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands, which you no longer need a passport for, and there has been an overwhelming response. VH1 is sponsoring the event and I’m actually doing a sneak peak of our first episode of The Beach. We’re going to have a fun filled weekend that will allow us to not just be seen at a party, but to collaborate and talk to each other because a lot of people don’t get a chance to do that. They think it’s best to pass out business cards at a party, but I can’t even begin to tell you how many cards I get that I don’t look.”
“For the B2B 2012 event we have performances by Naughty by Nature, who are gonna rock it, and Musiq Soulchild. We have comedians Luenell and Red Grant, but for a complete list you can check out the website b2bmixdown.com. Now, you don’t have to come cute, you can come comfortable in some shorts and some sandals and just kick it and sweat. You go to a party where everybody’s cute then they’re concerned about being cute. This party, honey, we want you to be loose have on ya lil’ beach dress, ya grass scarf, or ya lil’ hoola skirt, or whatever and just come comfortable. You come with ya haircut and ya hair all done – laid, dyed and fried to the side; you’ll be worried about it getting wet in the water. We ain’t worried about all that.”
Mogul ended the interview by asking LisaRaye what she wanted readers to know about her that they didn’t already know. She responded by saying that she is on a spiritual journey. One that has had her thinking about the way she used to live opposed to the way God wants us to live.
“That’s something I struggle with and I’m sure we all do,” LisaRaye admitted. “I’m trying my hardest to understand the bible, to understand His ways and to have a closer personal relationship with Him and sometimes I think back on the things I’ve done and it’s like wow, I would never do that. But you know it’s part of growth and that’s part of experience. It makes you who you are today. A lot of reflecting is going on now, changes in career and I don’t think me only being in front of the camera is where I want to be any longer. I prefer to pass the baton, seek out some other talent, help them do the things that I’ve done and then I’ll probably move aside or behind the scene and do some producing or directing.”
Great accomplishments will speak for themselves and I’m sure that many will stand in agreeance with me when I say that this beauty is a definitely a beast in her many professions. However, LisaRaye is more than that. She is a woman of compassion, love, and strength. A woman whose inner beauty mirrors her outer beauty with a spirit that is extremely contagious. LisaRaye is a Mogul in every aspect of the word, but more importantly she is a woman who dressed in all white is a symbol – a representation of her own vision. LisaRaye is a new beginning.
Wishing you continued success and peace, wisdom and understanding as you travel your spiritual journey. Blessings from us all.
